HISTORY
The league was created back on the 22nd Feb 1974. The concept of the league was for local club anglers in the Essex region to compete in a friendly and not too serious league.
The original meeting was initiated by Kelvedon A.S. with Mick Murton of Kelvedon starting proceedings with Bill Warner of Colchester A.P.S. being elected as the first chairman. 12 teams forming the original league. In 1979 Derek Powell of Kelvedon A.S. took over the Chairmans position from Barry Cox (Paxmans) and remained in post up until 2011. Teams have come and gone with at one stage the league consisting of 3 divisions of 8/7 teams. You can see a list of teams who have fished the league over the years under the TEAMS tab. Whilst it is impossible to mention all those who have helped run the league over the years a few stand out. The late Steve Randerson of Billericay who served as a treasurer for many years, Norman Mealham of Long Melford, who also is no longer with us was the driving force to extending into more than one division which saw the league thrive in the early 90’s, the afore mentioned Derek Powell and Peter Thompson from Braintree who held a number of roles over the years.
Current Format
